Philz Coffee, a popular coffee shop based in Oakland, celebrated the opening of its newest location in the Dana Point Lantern District on Wednesday, Nov. 6.
The new coffee shop is the first commercial tenant to join the Cove Development on the corner of Golden Lantern and Pacific Coast Highway.
A day before the coffee shop officially opened, some patrons who RSVPed were able to check out Dana Point’s newest coffee shop and enjoy a free beverage and pastry while supplies lasted as a part of a Sneak Peak training event.
After Philz opened its doors on Wednesday morning, Philz Chief Development Officer Patti Nelson noted that the coffee shop was already bustling with activity.
“We are very excited to be here,” Nelson said. “It was a long road to get here, but so happy to finally be open in the beautiful city of Dana Point.”
Nelson added that the corner space in the new Cove Development was “the perfect opportunity for us to open our first Dana Point location.”
The new location within the Cove Development will feature an outdoor patio and custom mural by San Diego artist Eddie Annelise Johnson.
“They have done a few murals for us, and we’re happy to have Eddie doing the mural here in Dana Point,” Nelson said.
Nelson added that parking at the new location is “really easy and convenient, so we hope that locals will enjoy that aspect as well.”
“Locals should check out Philz because we hand-make our coffee one cup at a time, and this particular location has a wonderful, cozy nook for locals to hang out and chill,” Nelson said.
The Cove Development opened earlier this year after first receiving Planning Commission approval in February 2016. It comprises four studio apartments, 27 one-bedroom apartments and eight two-bedrooms, of which four are two-story townhomes.
In addition to 39 apartment units, the Cove Development features three commercial spaces on the ground level. Philz Coffee, which is located on the corner of PCH and San Juan Avenue, will later be joined by a City Bank and OC Wine Experience, Project Manager Roger Maw said
The City Bank, which will be located in between Philz and OC Wine Experience, is currently under construction and is expected to be completed by January 2025, Maw said.
OC Wine Experience, which will offer wine tastings and charcuterie, is expected to fill the last commercial space in the development, on the corner of Golden Lantern and PCH.
